Donate Now

Help continue building April’s legacy in STEAM eduction by making a donation. Your generous donation will enable us to support and encourage charitable organizations and exceptionally creative individuals who leverage STEAM to educate children about nature and the importance of conserving Earth’s ecosystems.

Please Note

The April Pulley Sayre Legacy Foundation is structured to operate as a 501(c)(3) Private Non-Operating Foundation. But we are not yet recognized as a 501(c)(3). We are in the process of filing the appropriate paperwork (Form 1023) for IRS review and determination — a process that can take up to 6 months. Once we have received our determination letter from the IRS, we will inform all supporters of the decision.

Thinking About Making a Donation?

First and foremost, thank you! Your donation honors April by recognizing the significant impact she made in the children’s literature community and her passion to educate others about the natural world and the importance of protecting Earth’s ecosystems.

Second, if you are wishing to receive a tax deduction for any donations you make, please consult with your legal, financial, and tax advisors before making your contribution. In general, donors can deduct contributions to private foundations as allowed under Internal Revenue Code Section 170, but there are specific limitations to the deductibility of donations made to private non-operating foundations.

Third, as federal and state tax laws periodically change, and each individual’s financial situation is different, we will not offer any specific nor individualized consultation or advice to donors with respect to the deductibility of their contributions.

Finally, if you wish to make a sizable donation, please Contact Us and we will provide details on where to send a check or wire your donation.

Initial Capitalization

Jeff Sayre, April’s husband and co-founder and Chairperson of the Foundation, has pledged to donate at least $150,000 to the endowment fund over the first five years of the foundation’s existence. He currently plans to donate in equal installments, at least $30,000 each year, from 2024 through 2028.

Endowment Fund Management

Our endowment fund will be managed with the goal of earning a sufficient return on investment to run the organization, make annual charitable contributions, and fund the Green Snail Award. In other words, we hope to be able to maintain and even grow our endowment fund over time and never have to dip into the fund’s donated principle.

As our endowment fund grows, the size of the monetary component of the Green Snail Award will proportionally increase.
